Palm data transfer
I've been a PalmOS user for over 13 years and was thrilled when Palm announced the Pre in January. I got my Pre June 13 and loved the phone--until I tried to transfer my old Palm data.
I have about 3,400 contacts and 15,000 events in my calendar. Even if they're past, I use it as a log.
It took lots of struggling then finally a call to tech support to move my Palm data from v. 4.x to v. 6.x in order to use the data transfer assistant. Then it was time to move it all to the Pre!
I ran the DTA and it reported how many records transferred--far fewer than I have--but no error messages about maxing capacity. Only about 2/3 of my contacts transferred--just over 1,000. Worse, my calendar was corrupted, especially with recurring events.
Mothers' Day went from the 2nd Sunday of May to the 2nd Sunday of every month. Likewise with some other annual events. That I could correct on Google calendar. But Fathers' Day was moved from Sunday to Saturday. And a 6-week Wednesday evening event was moved from Wednesday to Tuesday! I can't risk a corrupted calendar. My contact list and calendar are WAY too important for my work. I was really saddened when I had to return the Pre and go back to my old PalmOS device.
Any word on the capacity of the Pre for contacts and events? Could WebOS possibly be WEAKER than PalmOS? Is an update in the works for DTA? One that keeps the integrity of the data, especially recurring events?
Help! I'd LOVE to go back to the Pre, but only if WebOS is at least as strong as PalmOS. Will the next Pre OS and DTA release fix the limitations and bugs?
