Mike… I tried to tether via bluetooth. Got the two paired, but not connected.

Did you do this without a hack, or WITH the hack?

Can you give me some direction as to where you found that hack? I would love to be able to use my Pre as a hotspot as well.

The Pre tethers easily. Bluetooth connect your pre to your laptop and under “Network Connections” double click the “Bluetooth Network Connection” – Your Pre should come up as an Access Point. Click “Connect” and enjoy!

Also, You can leave your Pre plugged into the computer as “Just Charging” and still have the bluetooth connection.

I have enabled tethering on my Pre. You just have to do a little searching on homebrew apps for the palm pre. In my case I can set my phone up as a WIFI hotspot and my laptop connects to it. The speed has been really decent!

No tethering sucks!! This is another sprint bad…. I would pay forit if it were available, but they’re (sprint) not capitalizing on the service. The Pre is better than my motorolla q and better than my GF’s Htc… I just which they would make this phone live up to it’s hype.

I am totally disgusted with the Pre. The shutting down is awful, the lack of apps makes this less than I had on my 755p, no tethering, can’t view a pdf from a web page, java on a website doesn’t work, and no flash – I’ve given this think 27 days and I’m about to bring it back!
Sprint sucks and Palm sucks for putting this thing out before it was ready. After more than a month there are still no new apps. Oh and I almost forgot, you can’t record video! C’mon, this is a basic function which should be on a phone like this.

For Treo’s the easiest way to tether is with the program from June Fabric called PDAnet: http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/index.php

As for tethering on the Pre – it is possible but you have to apply a hack: http://forums.precentral.net/hardware-use-trouble-shooting/186071-pre-roam-only-hack-5.html

I have WM phone. i’ll wait to try palm pre. i’ve tethered my 2 year old phone a few times and i’m glad it was there when I needed it. I just click on the internet share icon.

Its funny this topic is being brought up. I called Sprint in regards to using my Pre as a modem and the agent said it does not have capabilities right now and I would have to have the Everything Messaging Plan NOT the Everything Data Plan you are required to get as a Pre owner on he family plan. How would I use my Palm 755 as a modem?
