On May 19th, Sprint released the pricing and release date for the Palm Pre.  The Palm Pre will be released on June 6th, and you will be able to get it from BestBuy, Radioshack, Sprint retail stores/Sprint.com website, and select Walmart stores. If you really want to get a Palm Pre on June 6th, you must be “Pre-pared” because stores will have limited quantities of the Palm Pre and Sprints Chief Executive Dan Hesse expects shortages for a while.

How to Pre-pare for the Palm Pre Launch

1. Decide which plan you want to get with Sprint – The Palm Pre requires a two-year contract with either the Everything Data or the Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan. You can take a look at these plans by going to the Sprint website at this link. If you just want to develop apps for the webOS and you don’t want to buy the Palm Pre with a contract, it will cost you $549.99.

2. Decide where you want to buy the Palm Pre – I recommend you plan to go to either BestBuy or Radioshack because they will both allow you to buy the Palm Pre for $199 with a 2-year contract and  instant rebate. If you plan to buy through Sprint retail stores or Sprint.com you will not  get instant rebate, and you will have to pay $299.99 and fill in a mail-in-rebate for $100.

3. Make sure your store will carry the Palm Pre on June 6 – Call your store and make sure that they will be carrying the Palm Pre on June 6 and also ask them how much they will be carrying. Use the store locator links below to find stores near you, and check their store hours. In the event that your store does not have the Palm Pre when you get there, make sure to find a backup store so you won’t be coming back home empty-handed!

4. Pre-pare to buy the Palm Pre on June 6! – If you’ve contacted your store and verified that your store carries the Palm Pre, make sure you get to your store early so that you can get the Palm Pre.  If you’re buying the Palm Pre online you can keep checking on http://www.sprint.com/pre to see when its available.

I hope this guide will help any Pre fans looking to buy the Palm Pre on June 6th. Good luck!

what this do you consider “early”.. for example most best buys open at 10am

  3. Rob says:

Best Buy stores in my area don’t carry Sprint phones and my nearest Radio Shack says they will carry the Pre, but not on the release date. Next closest one says they don’t know if they’ll have it on June 6th or not. :(

Does anybody know if the Everything Plus Referral Program (formerly known as SERO) will be available in a Sprint store or is that only online?

    • Shan says:

You may want to call your local Sprint store and ask them.

    • Devlin says:

I called to confirm this last week. After much banging of my head against the nearest wall, I was able to get the girl on the phone to understand that I was a SERO customer looking to purchase a Pre. She continually told me that it was Simply Everything plan @ $99 or nothing. After I asked to speak with customer retention, she noticed that I did in face qualify for the Simply Everything Data 500 plan. She also said that any Sprint store employee should be able to handle this switch in store. I guess we will find out this weekend.

    • Jim says:

I went by to ask and was told that the SERO plan was no longer available. I tried explaining that the Everything Plus was SERO’s replacement and then he told me that even employees can’t buy the Pre yet.

At this point I gave up talking to him.

This past weekend my old phone was destroyed. I’m searching for a fairly simple user phone. I’ve been reading about the Palm Pre and the LG Lotus. I’m not a business end user so all the ‘extras’ that the blackberry offers doesn’t apply to me. I was wondering how users are finding the ease of use of the Pre. Mainly, the durability, quality of performance day to day doing simple tasks (email, texting, picture taking), general user interface such as answering and dialing (I had the Instinct at one time and returned it because I couldn’t stand the fact that I had to constantly slide the bar to answer the darn thing), and battery life. Although my last phone (Samsung MM-A920)had the ability to play MP3, I never used that capability so it doesn’t bother me not to have it. Any inputs?

One here once again, and I am now a Palm Pre user. I want to say thank you to everyone who posts on here. It really helped with my decision on which phone to buy, and where to get it from. I chose Radioshak. So far I’m very satisfied with the PP. I will keep checking back here to find out more as time goes by. Thanks!
